Bundesliga round-up: Great Dane fires RB Leipzig into top-6
Bayern Munich’s unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end at Hertha Berlin on Friday night, with Borussia Dortmund capitalising impressively to move to the top of the Bundesliga as they came from 2-0 down to beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in Saturday’s entertaining encounter at the BayArena. RB Leipzig secured just their second away win in all competitions of the season to move into the top-6 following their 2-1 win at Hoffenheim.
Yussef Poulsen was the star man in their victory as he netted twice at Hoffenheim. The Danish forward scored his second and third league goals of the season in win, with Poulsen netting twice from five shots. Seven aerial duels won, four key passes and two successful dribbles capped off a fine display from the 24-year-old, whose WhoScored rating (9.82) was better than any other Bundesliga player in gameweek six.
Fellow striker in the best-rated XI of the week Alfred Finnbogason also podiums in the top performing players of the week after making a fine return to action. The Icelandic forward, making his first start of the season, rattled in a hat-trick as Augsburg landed an impressive 4-1 win over Freiburg. Finnbogason netted with three of his seven shots, while three tackles and two aerial duels won saw him come away from the victory with a WhoScored rating of 9.45.
Former Swansea midfielder Jonathan De Guzman rounds off the top performing players from the week after his man of the match outing in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 4-1 win over Hannover 96. The Dutchman scored one and assisted another in the victory, those coming from returns of three shots and five key passes, as De Guzman came away from the encounter with a WhoScored rating of 8.67.
For Werder Bremen defender Milos Veljkovic, it was a weekend to forget as the centre-back earned the worst WhoScored rating (4.68) of the week. Not only was he part of a defence that conceded after just 19 minutes, but the 23-year-old was dismissed for a second yellow 10 minutes before the interval. Prior to his sending off, Veljkovic failed to make a tackle or win an aerial duel to cap off a truly disappointing Saturday.
