Serie A Team of the Month: League leaders Inter feature
Goalkeeper: Luigi Sepe (Parma) - 7.15 rating
The sole Parma representative in this XI, it was another busy month for Luigi Sepe, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.15 to feature between the sticks. He made more saves (23) than any other goalkeeper in September to star.
Right-back: Juan Cuadrado (Juventus) - 7.18 rating
Champions Juventus have two representatives in the Serie A team of the month as Juan Cuadrado went some way to proving he warrants a regular starting spot in Maurizio Sarri's starting XI. Indeed, the Colombian made nine tackles and seven key passes to land a WhoScored rating of 7.18.
Centre-back: Diego Godin (Inter) - 7.28 rating
Inter remain the only side to win every league match in Italy this term and have two players in the Serie A team of the month. Diego Godin has been resolute at the back since coming into the side with his lowest WhoScored rated start coming in a 1-0 win over Lazio (7.24). 10 clearances, seven tackles and six interceptions helped return an average WhoScored rating of 7.28.
Centre-back: Armando Izzo (Torino) - 7.19 rating
Partnering Godin at the heart of the defence is Torino's Armando Izzo, who gained a WhoScored rating of 7.19. The Italian bagged his first league goal of the season in a crucial 3-2 win at Atalanta and made more interceptions (18) than any other Serie A player in September to reinforce a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of 'ball interception'.
Left-back: Aleksandar Kolarov (Roma) - 7.20 rating
Aleksandar Kolarov rounds off the defence having had a direct hand in three Roma goals in September, scoring twice. The Serbian star made more key passes (12) than any other Serie A defender last month as he yielded a WhoScored rating of 7.20.
Right midfield: Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo) - 7.98 rating
The Serie A player of the month, Domenico Berardi started the campaign in blistering form and having had a direct hand in more goals (7 - 5 goals, 2 assists) the Italian was good value for his WhoScored rating of 7.98. Nine key passes and five successful dribbles helped Berardi return such a fine rating.
Central midfield: Luis Alberto (Lazio) - 7.79 rating
Like Kolarov for fellow Rome side Roma, Lazio's Luis Alberto also had a direct hand in three league goals in September, with his sole goal coming in the Derby della Capitale, a 1-1 draw he won the WhoScored man of the match award in. Only two players created more goalscoring chances than the Spaniard (15) last month, while 15 successful dribbles was the second best return, as he landed a 7.79 rating.
Central midfield: Stefano Sensi (Inter) - 7.75 rating
The second Inter player to feature, Stefano Sensi has been a revelation following his summer arrival from Sassuolo. No player won more WhoScored man of the match awards than the 24-year-old (2) in Serie A in September, while four goals and assists combined was also a fine return for a player who links up with Alberto in midfield with a WhoScored rating of 7.75.
Left midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) - 7.67 rating
The second Juventus player in the side, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two and assisted one for the Old Lady in September, bagging once in a man of the match performance against SPAL 2013. An average of 6.3 shots per game was the second highest return in Italy's top tier, while three clear-cut goalscoring chances created was a third best return, and contributed towards the 34-year-old's WhoScored rating of 7.67.
Striker: Dries Mertens (Napoli) - 7.84 rating
Dries Mertens netted three times in September, with a brace in the 2-0 win over Sampdoria a standout performance from the Napoli forward. Mertens also bagged a key goal in the narrow 2-1 win over Brescia over the weekend and he could've easily had himself an assist last month having made eight key passes to help gain a WhoScored rating of 7.84.
Striker: Duvan Zapata (Atalanta) - 7.78 rating
The only Atalanta payer in the side, no player scored more goals than Duvan Zapata (5) in Serie A last month. Like Sensi, the striker also helped himself to two WhoScored man of the match awards, while one assist in a 4-1 win at Sassuolo saw Zapata end the month with a 7.78 rating.
