Chelsea hat-trick hero leads Premier League Team of the Week
With another thrilling weekend of Premier League action now complete, we take a look at some of gameweek 11’s best performers, with Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku the standout after a perfect display at home to Bournemouth. Also represented in this week’s team are Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Chelsea and Brentford.
Sam Johnstone (Crystal Palace) - 7.79
England international Sam Johnstone kept his fifth clean sheet of the season in Saturday’s win at Burnley, making a total of five saves and 16 accurate long balls at Turf Moor to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.79.
Moussa Niakhaté (Nottingham Forest) - 7.69
27-year-old Senegalese defender Moussa Niakhaté made his fourth start of the season on Sunday, and helped his side to a clean sheet and vital three points at home to Aston Villa. Niakhaté made a total of seven tackles and interceptions, eight clearances and one block on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.69.
Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - 7.65
England defender Harry Maguire made his fourth consecutive start of the season at Craven Cottage on Saturday, and played a huge part in Erik ten Hag’s side avoiding further crisis as they sealed a 1-0 victory. Maguire made a total of nine clearances, two blocks and six accurate long balls, to return a WhoScored rating of 7.65.
Nathan Aké (Manchester City) - 7.64
28-year-old centre-back Nathan Aké scored late on against former club Bournemouth in Saturday’s 6-1 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium. The Dutchman also made four clearances, two key passes and maintained a pass success rate of 94.1% to land a WhoScored rating of 7.64.
Ex-Manchester City winger Cole Palmer continued his impressive form for new side Chelsea when Mauricio Pochettino’s men made the trip across London to face Tottenham on Monday evening. Palmer registered a goal and an assist - for the second time this season - while also making one key pass and completing four successful dribbles, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.70.
Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) - 9.07
After a scintillating display at Old Trafford last weekend, Bernardo Silva put on a show against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, finding the back of the net with two of four shots. In addition, he also made three key passes and maintained a pass success rate of 92.5% to return a WhoScored rating of 9.07.
Conor Gallagher (Chelsea) - 8.22
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher maintained his record of starting every Premier League match under new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday evening, and registered a third assist in the space of four matches when he set up Nicolas Jackson in the 93rd minute. Gallagher also made three tackles, two interceptions, five key passes and one successful dribble to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.22.
Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 8.14
Once again, Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes popped up at just the right moment for Manchester United when his 91st minute strike sealed all three points away to Fulham on Saturday. The United captain also made a total of three tackles, one key pass and two successful dribbles at Craven Cottage to land a WhoScored rating of 8.14.
Jeremy Doku (Manchester City) - 10.0
With a perfect WhoScored rating of 10.0, Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku is the Premier League player of the week. The 21-year-old Belgium international became the youngest player to register four assists in a single Premier League match, and also found the back of the net himself to open the scoring against a helpless Bournemouth side. In all, Doku registered five key passes, five successful dribbles and a pass success rate of 94.6%.
Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea) - 9.53
After struggling for form in front of goal in recent weeks, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson made the most of Tottenham’s implosion on Monday evening to register his first Premier League hat-trick. The 22-year-old found the net with half of his six shots in north London, and also completed three successful dribbles, to post a WhoScored rating of 9.53, his best of the season by some distance.
Neal Maupay (Brentford) - 7.94
Everton loanee Neal Maupay put an end to a 34-match and near 14-month goal drought when he headed home in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over West Ham. The Frenchman found the net with one of three attempts on goal, while also making one key pass and one successful dribble, to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.94.
