Man City 1-1 Liverpool Player Ratings: Mane the star as Firmino struggles

In a game that promised plenty in the opening 45 minutes, both teams were evidently happy to share the spoils as Manchester City and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening. Here, we run through the player ratings from the stalemate at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City - 6.30

Ederson - 6.10: Did well to hold firm early on to deny fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino after the Liverpool man beat the offside trap. Dived the right way for Mohamed Salah's penalty and made a superb stop to save a rasping Trent Alexander-Arnold strike and ensure Diogo Jota was unable to score from the follow up. Had little to do in the second half.

Kyle Walker - 5.67: Conceded a penalty for a rash challenge on Sadio Mane early in the first half. Made amends with the pass for Kevin De Bruyne in the build up to Gabriel Jesus' goal. Saw yellow in second half injury time as he carelessly gave away possession and fouled Georginio Wijnaldum to stop a Liverpool counter attack. Struggled to keep Mane in check over the 90 minutes and made five fouls in total.

Ruben Dias - 6.57: A composed performance from the young centre-back. Solid in possession, the Portuguese defender found a teammate ith 93.7% of his 79 passes and won the ball well at the back as he made three tackles.

Aymeric Laporte - 6.23: Worked his way into the book with a foul on Mohamed Salah with 10 minutes to go. The Frenchman put in a proactive showing from the heart of the defence as he made more clearances (4) than any other player.

Joao Cancelo - 6.93: Put an absolute peach of a ball through to Gabriel Jesus 10 minutes after the restart, but the striker couldn't direct the header past Alisson. Made a crucial challenge in the latter stages of the game as Mohamed Salah looked to forge a chance for Liverpool.

Rodri - 5.66: Held off pressure well from Jordan Henderson to play a lovely raking ball to Kyle Walker down the City right and the home side capitalised on the vacated space to draw level.

Ilkay Gundogan - 6.60: Not a standout display from the German, but he worked well off the ball, making two tackles. His darting run in the build up to Manchester City's goal perhaps distracted the Liverpool defence and this allowed Gabriel Jesus to capitalise on any possible confusion at the back to draw the hosts level.

Kevin De Bruyne - 6.31: Picked out Raheem Sterling well at the back post, but the City star couldn't finish. Dragged an effort from 20 yards wide before turning provider for Gabriel Jesus to draw the home side level. However, missed a penalty to put City ahead shortly before the break.

Ferran Torres - 6.12: Kept quiet by Andy Robertson in a subdued performance before he was taken off for Bernardo Silva with an hour on the clock. Failed to muster a shot or key pass, nor did he complete a dribble.

Gabriel Jesus - 7.10 (Man of the Match): Made it three goals from three to cancel out Mohamed Salah's opener. His fine touch took the ball away from Trent Alexander-Arnold and he finished well past Alisson. Should have done better 10 minutes after the break when picked out brilliantly by Joao Cancelo.

Raheem Sterling - 6.33: Took his time to set himself to get a shot off, but Alisson denied the City star well. However, bar that first half effort, the winger struggled to impose himself on the frontline.

Subs - Bernardo Silva - 6.18

Liverpool - 6.35

Alisson - 6.15: Did really well to hold his ground and deny Raheem Sterling an equaliser midway through the first half. Could do little to stop Gabriel Jesus, but ensured City were unable to take the lead early in the second half as he got down to claim a low Kevin De Bruyne cross.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6.41: Played a lovely ball over the top for Roberto Firimino to run onto with a minute on the clock, yet Ederson was equal to his compatriot's effort. Played in well by Mohamed Salah after Kevin De Bruyne's penalty miss, only for his goalbound effort to be well saved by Ederson. Forced off on the hour mark with a suspected calf injury.

Joel Matip - 6.44: Booked shortly after half time in what was hardly a stand out display from the Cameroonian. Caught napping for Gabriel Jesus' goal, but he did return a 100% tackle success rate and made three clearances.

Joe Gomez - 5.72: Conceded a penalty shortly before the break for handball, which, fortunately for the centre-back, wasn't capitalised upon as Kevin De Bruyne dragged his penalty wide. Picked out a Liverpool teammate with relative ease as he returned an 89.4% pass success rate.

Andy Robertson - 6.50: Kept Ferran Torres very quiet down the City right. However, he wasn't given much of a chance to get forward in a sub-par display from the Scottish left-back.

Jordan Henderson - 6.20: Committed to pressing Rodri in the build up to Gabriel Jesus' goal. As such, there was too much space in midfield once Georgino Wijnaldum looked to close down Kyle Walker and this presented Manchester City with the chance to equalise.

Georginio Wijnaldum - 6.28: Sought to close down Kyle Walker in the build up to Gabriel Jesus' goal, only to leave Kevin De Bruyne unmarked and with the chance to pick his pass for the Brazilian to draw Manchester City level.

Diogo Jota - 6.21: Unable to add to his six goals in his last four appearances at the Etihad Stadium. Was denied well by Ederson, who claimed a loose ball following a Trent Alexander-Arnold effort, as the Portuguese forward was prepared to let rip one yard from goal in the first half.

Sadio Mane - 6.92: Always a danger when he got on the ball in the final third. Completed three dribbles and made two key passes for the Reds, and won the penalty for Liverpool's goal, one of six fouls he drew over the 90 minutes. Only thing missing from his performance was an assist as he failed to take a chance against Ederson, even as the rain started coming down at the Etihad Stadium.

Mohamed Salah - 6.70: Netted his 10th league and European goal of the season from the spot early on after Sadio Mane had been fouled by Kyle Walker. Had his teammates boasted their shooting boots, he would have had an assist to his name as he made more key passes (3) than any other player.

Roberto Firmino - 6.11: Beat the offside trip to latch onto a Trent Alexander-Arnold long ball, only to be denied by Ederson. However, the Brazilian on the whole didn't give a good account of himself and it looks increasingly likely that, when everyone is fit, he won't be first choice. One of his two shots went high and wide when there were better options on and it wasn't a shock to see him come off on the hour mark.
