European Team of the Month: Six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi features

Defending champions from their respective leagues Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus all feature in the WhoScored European team of the month, as do glory seeking pair Liverpool and RB Leipzig, with the latter side boasting the player of the month... 

Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus) - 8.23 rating

Juventus were far from their best in November, but they did enough to secure three wins from three last month, conceding just the once. While the Old Lady would rarely be tested by Serie A opposition in the past, Juventus number one Wojciech Szczesny returned a fine WhoScored rating of 8.23 as he made a total of 17 saves in November, more than any other goalkeeper in Italy, with his lowest rated performance coming in a 1-0 win at Torino, that still a notable 7.79. 

Right-back: Youcef Atal (Nice) - 8.39 rating

The highly rated Algerian Youcef Atal is our Ligue 1 player of the month and for good reason as he returned a WhoScored rating of 8.39 in November. The youngster provided his first assist of the season in a man of the match performance against Bordeaux and completed the second most dribbles (16) in France's top tier to return such a fine score and feature at right-back in this XI. 

Centre-back: Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus) - 7.79 rating

The second of two Juventus representatives, Matthijs de Ligt has begun to prove why the Serie A powerhouse spent big to sign the Dutchman over the summer as he put in a series of solid performances. The 20-year-old netted his first league goal with Juventus in the 1-0 Turin Derby success at the beginning of the month, while 16 clearances, five interceptions and three tackles saw him garner a WhoScored rating of 7.79. 

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.69 rating

It's an all-Dutch central defensive partnership as De Ligt's international teammate Virgil van Dijk makes the European team of the month with a WhoScored rating of 7.69. The Liverpool star rounded off November with an imperious showing against Brighton as he bagged his second and third league goals of the campaign in a star man display. 22 aerial duels won, 29 clearances, four tackles and two interceptions helped Van Dijk to such a commendable rating. 

Left-back: Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) - 7.69 rating

Rounding off the backline, Alphonso Davies has been solid at left-back since dropping into defence for Bavarian powerhouse Bayern Munich. The teenager provided his first assist of the season in November, that coming from one of four key passes, as he pushed on well, completing 10 dribbles. 20 tackles was also a fine return for the Canadian, who features at left-back having returned a WhoScored rating of 7.69. 

Right midfield: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - 8.66 rating 

Football Index Buy Price - £6.36 

Lionel Messi won the WhoScored man of the match award in two of his three LaLiga appearances in November as he scored four and assisted one from respective returns of 11 shots and 11 key passes. Eight successful dribbles was also a solid return from the mercurial Argentine, who makes this XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.66. 

Central midfield: Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) - 8.40 rating

The first of two RB Leipzig representatives in this XI, youngster Christopher Nkunku was exceptional in November as he had a direct hand in five goals in four appearances, providing four assists from 13 key passes. His one goal came from six shots, while 10 successful dribbles, three tackles and three interceptions saw the Frenchman gain a WhoScored rating of 8.40 last month. 

Central midfield: Radja Nainggolan (Cagliari) - 8.33 rating

Partnering Nkunku in the middle of the park is Radja Nainggolan. The Belgian has been influential for high flying Cagliari and is our Serie A player of the month for November with a WhoScored rating of 8.33. The midfielder had a direct hand in five goals last month, which included a hat-trick of assists in a 5-2 win over Fiorentina, while six key passes and five tackles saw Nainggolan land such a noteworthy rating.

Left midfield: Dimitri Payet (Marseille) - 8.28 rating

Dimitri Payet has had a direct hand in five league goals this season, three of which came in November, and included a brace in Marseille's 2-1 win over Lyon. Striker: Timo Werner (RB Leipzig) - 8.82 rating

The WhoScored European player of the month for November, Timo Werner was exceptional for RB Leipzig last month. The Germany international had a direct hand in 12 league goals in November, which included a hat-trick and a hat-trick of assists in an 8-0 win over Mainz 05. Remarkably, Werner's seven goals came from just 18 shots, while his eight key passes resulted in five assists. Eight dribbles capped a memorable November for the striker, who was good value for his WhoScored rating of 8.82.

Striker: Raul Jimenez (Wolves) - 8.41 rating

Rounding off the XI is Wolves star Raul Jimenez. The Premier League's in-form player is our player of the month in England's top tier with a WhoScored rating of 8.41. The Mexican netted in all three league outings, totalling three goals, and mustered 20 shots, seven key passes and six sucessful dribbles in a month where his lowest rated performance came against Bournemouth (8.10).
