RB Leipzig assist machine podiums in Bundesliga's February star players
RB Leipzig outlined their title credentials and then some in February, firstly in securing a 0-0 draw at Bayern Munich, a game they could have won had Marcel Sabitzer and Timo Werner boasted their shooting boots, and secondly in their resounding 5-0 win at Schalke. It was a match that Christopher Nkunku thrived in as he provided four assists, becoming the first player since September 2012 to register four assists in a single match in Germany's top tier, and ensured he podiumed as one of the Bundesliga's best rated players last month.
3. Lars Stindl (Gladbach) - 8.08 rating
Lars Stindl has played a bit part role for Gladbach this season, making just six league starts for the Foals, but he enjoyed a superb February for the title chasing German side. He has just five league goals to his name this term, yet four of those five goals were scored last month as the 31-year-old found the back of the net twice in their Rhine Derby 4-1 win at Fortuna Duesseldorf and again bagged a brace in the 3-2 win at Augsburg, while an assist in the latter away success saw him land the WhoScored man of the match award. All in all, Stindl's fine form in the final third ensured Gladbach remain within touching distance of Bayern Munich as he earned a WhoScored rating of 8.08.
2. Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) - 8.17 rating
With Christopher Nkunku used in two positions across his three Bundesliga appearances in February, the RB Leipzig star was unfortunate not to earn a spot in the Bundesliga team of the month, with Serge Gnabry, Thiago and Jadon Sancho all securing places in the XI at the Frenchman's expense. That said, Nkunku clearly excelled in February with no player registering more assists than the summer arrival (4) in Germany's top tier. A total of 16 key passes was more than any other player, nine of which came in the aforementioned 5-0 win at Schalke, that also a record in a Bundesliga match this term, to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.17.
1. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 8.33 rating
Winning the Bundesliga player of the month accolade is Bayern star striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is ruled out for a few weeks with a knee injury sustained in the Champions League win at Chelsea, yet Bayern proved against Hoffenheim that even without Lewandowski, they can blow teams away. Yet prior to his absence, Lewandowski secured a February average of 8.33 having scored four times in wins over Mainz 05, FC Koln and Paderborn. 13 aerial duels won and 12 successful dribbles ranked 11th and 10th, respectively, in the Bundesliga in February with Lewandowski once again excellent for the defending champions.
@whoscored the team of the month is not based on the player's rating then (Nkunku's rating is better than Gnabry and Sancho) ?
