United States vs Wales Prediction - 2022 World Cup Match 1
What are we expecting when it comes to a USA vs Wales prediction and who do we think will come out on top when the two teams meet on Monday for their first World Cup 2022 match?
That’s the golden question, really, and answering it starts by taking a look at both squads and what we can expect from each manager.
For the United States, this first game against Wales is one that is surrounded by mystery and intrigue. There are plenty of questions yet to be answered when it comes to the starting XI and who will take the pitch for the USMNT.
Let’s start with what we know. We know that the United States is the youngest team at the 2022 World Cup. We also know that Matt Turner will likely be in goal and Sergino Dest, Antonee Robinson and Walker Zimmerman will make up the backline. The fourth and final spot is up for grabs on defense, but it looks like Tim Ream may get the call.
Leeds United’s Tyler Adams will be joined by Weston McKennie in the midfield and Gio Reyna will likely be above. We know Captain Christian Pulisic we be out wide on the left, but we have no clue who will start up top and who will play out wide on the right side.
To me, it makes most sense to have Brenden Arronson on the right seeing as he’s been in great form with Leeds, but Gregg Burkhalter has shown that he prefers Tim Weah at times, so we don’t know what we’ll get.
We also think both Haji Wright and Josh Sargent are superior to Jesus Ferreira, but that Burkhalter is going to go with Ferreira to open up the World Cup.
Wales still has Gareth Bale, but this year’s squad is also full of youthful promise that they hope can deliver on the biggest stage in the world.
Neco Williams, Rubin Colwill and Brennan Johnson should be difference makers for the Welsh and will play a big part in this game.
Overall, we feel the United States are the stronger team and should win. However, the inexperience they have comes to bite them in the back a little bit in the opening game. This one should result in a tie, and that both teams should lose to England, meaning the Group B tiebreaker to advance to the knockout stage will be goal differential based on the result against Iran.
