Three perfect 10s in Bundesliga dominated European best XI

With the international break upon us, it’s a chance to take a look at the latest European team of the week. 

Goalkeeper: Regis Gurtner (Amiens) - 8.20 rating 

For the second week running, an Amiens player makes the best XI in Europe this week with Regis Gurtner impressing in their 0-0 draw with Angers. The goalkeeper made three saves in the stalemate, including a late penalty stop to secure a positive result, as the 32-year-old returned a WhoScored rating of 8.20. 

Right-back: Jonathan Schmid (Augsburg) - 8.18 rating 

Augsburg boast two players in this XI, both of which are defenders, the first of who is right-back Jonathan Schmid. The 28-year-old hit the back of the net from one of three shots in a routine 3-1 win over Hannover 96, while two interceptions and one tackle helped him land a WhoScored rating of 8.18. 

Centre-back: Willi Orban (RB Leizpig) - 8.76 rating 

RB Leipzig ground out a 1-0 win at Schalke on Saturday with Willi Orban impressing once more as he returned a WhoScored rating of 8.76. The Hungary international won 11 aerial duels in the victory, while 15 clearances, three tackles and three interceptions capped off another fine defensive display for Orban. 

Centre-back: Kevin Danso (Augsburg) - 8.44 rating 

Partnering Orban at the back, and the second Augsburg representative, is youngster Kevin Danso, who continues to shine. The 20-year-old Austrian grabbed himself an assist from his sole key pass in their 3-1 win, while returns of five clearances, four interceptions and three tackles saw the youngster win the WhoScored man of the match award with an 8.44 rating. 

Left-back: Sebastian Kerk (Nuernberg) - 8.04 rating 

Completing the defence, and rounding off an all Bundesliga backline, is Nuernberg’s Sebastian Kerk despite a 1-0 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt. The 24-year-old was impressive nonetheless as he made three tackles and one interception to contribute to a WhoScored rating of 8.04. 

Right midfield: Admir Mehmedi (Wolfsburg) - 8.54 rating 

Yet another Bundesliga player makes the grade this week as Admir Mehmedi makes the cut out wide after a solid performance in Wolfsburg’s 5-2 win over Fortuna Duesseldorf. The Swiss attacker bagged his sixth league goal of the season in the victory, hitting the back of the net with one of three shots, and defended his flank well, too, as he made five tackles to land a WhoScored rating of 8.54. 

Central midfield: James Rodriguez (Bayern Munich) - 10.0 rating 

Bayern secured a second successive 6-0 league win as they bounced back from their Champions League exit with aplomb. Colombian creator James Rodriguez was excellent in the home triumph over Mainz 05 as he bagged a hat-trick in the victory, with he scoring from six shots, while an additional three key passes contributed to a perfect 10 WhoScored rating. 

Central midfield: Luis Alberto (Lazio) - 9.64 rating 

The only Serie A representative in this XI is Lazio’s Luis Alberto, who landed a WhoScored rating of 9.64 in a comfortable 4-1 win over Parma. The Spaniard scored with two of four shots and provided one assist from seven key passes. Three successful dribbles, two interceptions and one tackle saw him land the man of the match award. 

Left midfield: Leon Bailey (Bayer Leverkusen) - 9.08 rating 

The seventh and final Bundesliga player to make the grade is Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey, who excelled despite playing in a 3-1 defeat to Werder Bremen. He found the back of the net with one of six shots, while no player has completed more dribbles in a Bundesliga match this season than Bailey against Werder Bremen (10) to return a WhoScored rating of 9.08. 

Striker: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - 10.0 rating 

Another week, another spot in the European best XI for Lionel Messi. You know you’ve played well when the opposition fans stand to applaud your performance with the Argentine sensation thriving in Barcelona’s 4-1 win at Real Betis. He landed a second successive perfect 10 WhoScored rating having scored with three of five shots, while four key passes and one successful dribble helped cap off a memorable display. 

Striker: Angel Di Maria (PSG) - 10.0 rating 

Messi’s compatriot Angel Di Maria rounds off the XI this week and his inclusion means there is no place for Wout Weghorst, despite his fine showing against Fortuna Dusseldorf. Di Maria had a direct hand in all three goals in PSG’s 3-1 Le Classique win over Marseille as he scored two and assisted one in a man of the match display, while eight successful dribbles, two key passes and two tackles helped garner a perfect 10 WhoScored rating.
