Presenting Omar Marmoush: The Egyptian King to be wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal

When we talk about the Egyptian king, Mohamed Salah's name instantly comes to mind. It's rightfully so, as he’s arguably the best inside forward the Premier League has ever seen. However, the Liverpool legend turns 33 next summer. The crown remains his for now, but abdication looms, especially with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush lighting up the Bundesliga this season, netting over a goal every match in the league.

The attacker has spoken about Salah, his compatriot, before, admitting that emulating the winger is something he intends to do. "He [Salah] managed to become one of the three best players in the world," Marmoush said to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung earlier this season. "That inspires me and it's something I also want to achieve."

Marmoush still has a long way to go before being compared to Salah, but his performances this season have been remarkable. While there is a possibility of the Marmoush even directly replacing Salah at Anfield, if reports are to be believed.

Omar Marmoush Transfer Value - how much is he worth now?

According to FootballTransfers' Player Valuation Model, Marmoush has a current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €17.3m, while we have him as the second-best and second-most valuable Egyptian player in the world.

His contract is up at Waldstadion in June 2027 - and, indeed, there is a possibility that he may depart before then.

What does Omar Marmoush bring to the table?

Many expected Frankfurt to struggle after the departure of their star striker Randal Kolo Muani, who left for Paris Saint-Germain. But, fortunately for the German side, Marmoush has stepped up in a big way. In particular this year, he has been one of the most in-form strikers in Europe.

After gaining attention in his native Egypt, he had the option to represent Canada but ultimately committed to Egypt. His move to Germany came as a teenager when he joined VfL Wolfsburg. But there, inconsistency plagued him. Despite flashes of potential, he found it challenging to make his mark at Wolfsburg. He moved to Frankfurt on a free last season and has been a revelation ever since. Marmoush is capable of playing both as a winger and a striker - this has been the case, too, this campaign.

"Omar is a fantastic player," said head coach Dino Toppmoller last campaign after Marmoush scored twice against Union Berlin. "He’s discovered his scoring touch. His pace causes problems for defenders, and his improved instincts allow him to find dangerous positions on the pitch. He’s also able to contribute as a target player, laying off the ball with precision."

In just six Bundesliga matches, he surged past Harry Kane to become the Bundesliga's leading scorer with eight goals. It makes for a goal every 1.33 league games. Add in his four assists and Marmoush is registering two goal contributions a match. By contrast, Chelsea star Cole Palmer is yielding 1.57 at present.

Marmoush has been outstanding for progressive runs and successful dribbles too, ranking among the league's best. For WhoScored, Marmoush is the best-performing player in Europe today, with his rating of 8.49 nestled at the top of the table. Bukayo Saka (8.25) and Lamine Yamal (8.19) sit just below him. At Frankfurt, Marmoush is working alongside Hugo Ekitike. The two have developed a formidable partnership up front. In Frankfurt's recent 3-3 draw against Bayern Munich, they lined up in a 4-4-2 formation that proved more than effective.

Ekitike scored once, while Marmoush netted an impressive brace. The match saw Frankfurt allow Bayern to dominate possession, relying on quick, devastating counter attacks. Marmoush's blistering pace, strength, and clinical finishing were on full display. Both of his goals were similar in nature - explosive and extraordinary, highlighting his ability to outmuscle and outrun Bayern’s defenders.

In early 2023, Arsenal briefly considered Marmoush as an alternative to Mykhailo Mudryk, with scouts sent to monitor his performances. At the time, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach also attempted to secure his services, before he committed to Frankfurt. It is arguably one of the best free transfers in recent history. Now West Ham have expressed interest in the forward, as FootballTransfers revealed, and there are now reports that Liverpool are keen on the 25-year-old.

The latter buying Marmoush would certainly be a fitting addition given the circumstances, with Salah potentially departing Anfield in the summer when his contract is up. There really is the poetic possibility of Marmoush morphing into the new Egyptian King, but a lot will depend if he can keep his form up until next year. And that's a tall order.
