GOALKEEPERS
Jack Butland - 19 points earned
With a clean sheet in the real shock result of the weekend, Jack Butland did his burgeoning reputation no harm ahead of the looming international break. The 24-year-old missed much of last season through injury but returned in strong fashion and was on fine form once again on Saturday, producing six saves to keep Arsenal at bay.
Jonas Lossl - 17.50 points earned
Back-to-back clean sheets for new Huddersfield stopper Lossl have seen the Dane win over the Terriers fans immediately along with some impressed fantasy football bosses. He picked up the highest points haul from Yahoo! in week one (16) but despite bettering that figure against Newcastle at the weekend, places second this time around.
Wayne Hennessey - 16 points earned
It’s fair to say if it weren’t for the interventions of Wayne Hennessey, Liverpool’s 1-0 win at the weekend could have been a lot more comfortable. Indeed, the Wales international produced 12 saves as the Reds peppered the Palace goal, and he’ll be aiming to keep a first clean sheet of the season at home to Swansea on Saturday.
DEFENDERS
Marcos Alonso - 23.55 points earned
There’s little surprise as to the top scoring defender in the charts from gameweek two, with a Marcos Alonso brace not only meaning that Chelsea bounced back from defeat against Burnley but ensuring that Spurs’ Wembley woes continued. The Spaniard netted with both of his attempts at goal, including a stunning trademark free-kick to open the scoring.
Harry Maguire - 17.75 points earned
After an assist from the back on his debut at Arsenal, Maguire crowned his first home appearance for Leicester with a goal in a 2-0 victory over newly promoted Brighton. The former Hull man already looks an astute signing for the Foxes, displaying great physicality at both ends, though a tough trip to pace setters United is up next.
Eric Bailly - 17.25 points earned
Sharpest to react to a Paul Pogba header that bounced onto the line off the bar, Eric Bailly opened his United account at the weekend, along with the floodgates as Mourinho’s men went on to romp to a successive 4-0 victory at Swansea. The Ivory Coast international produced 3 interceptions at the back to boot in a game that was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggests.
MIDFIELDERS
Sadio Mane - 22.10 points earned
Two games, two goals for Sadio Mane, who has quickly established himself as a pivotal player for the Reds once again this season, and their most decisive match winner. That was certainly the case against Palace, profiting from an opposition error to slot home having been denied by the aforementioned Hennessey three times beforehand.
Paul Pogba - 21.05 points earned
Like Mane, Pogba also has goals in consecutive games to start the season, but unlike the Senegalese he is silencing some harsh critics with his early season form. The Frenchman was perhaps a little fortunate to stay on the field at Swansea but he was superb on the ball, completing 61 passes and capping his performance with a sumptuous finish.
Aaron Mooy - 17.90 points earned
Already proving a real bargain buy in the fantasy football stakes, and indeed in reality for newly promoted Huddersfield, Mooy has transferred his Championship form into the top-flight with impressive ease. His all action displays will be pivotal to the Terriers’ survival, and so too will moments of magic akin to that which won the game against Newcastle on Sunday.
FORWARDS
Chicharito - 26.05 points earned
The top scorer in game week two of Yahoo! Sports fantasy football in the Premier League, Chicharito did what Chicharito does against Southampton. His first two goals for West Ham were trademark, opportunistic strikes, with the Mexican always fastest to react in the box. His brace may not have been enough to earn the Hammers a result at St. Mary’s but a trip to Newcastle certainly represents a real opportunity to put that right on Saturday.
Richarlison - 17.20 points earned
An unknown entity to the Watford fans, Brazilian youngster Richardson is certainly making an instant impression for the Hornets. The 20-year-old made an impact from the bench against Liverpool to earn a start at Bournemouth and celebrated it with his first goal for the club, scrambling home to give Marco Silva’s men the lead. That was one of four shots at goal, and he’ll be hoping for a similar outcome form a first home start against pointless Brighton at the weekend.
Wayne Rooney - 13.55 points earned
It just had to be Rooney that left Manchester City frustrated on Monday night, scoring his 200th Premier League goal and his second in successive matches since returning to boyhood club Everton. It will be a tough task to add to his tally away to Chelsea next time out, but the same could have been said of a trip to the Etihad, with the England international proving it’s premature to write him off just yet.
