WhoScored Tipster: 5 Tempting Tips Ahead of the Weekend's Action
Ahead of a full weekend of action across Europe's top 5 leagues heading into the international break, WhoScored.com bring you some tempting odds from a number of the big clashes on the continent.
NEWCASTLE vs ARSENAL - Arsenal to win by 1
Starting with Saturday's early kick-off in the Premier League, we're tipping Arsenal to secure a narrow victory for the second away game running. Newcastle may have lost each of the last 7 meetings between the two sides but at home they haven't lost to the Gunners by more than a single goal in 5.
McClaren's men picked up an impressive point at Old Trafford last time out, keeping United at bay, and will fancy their chances if Arsenal are again without their regular centre-back partnership. Wenger's side should pick up three points though, with Olivier Giroud particularly effective against Newcastle - netting 8 goals in the last 6 meetings between the sides - but it may not be plain sailing. At odds of 3.50 to win by a 1-goal margin with Bet365 there's good money on the visitors scraping another victory on the road.
BAYERN MUNICH vs BAYER LEVERKUSEN - Both teams to score in 1st half
Two of just three teams with a 100% record after only two Bundesliga matches go head-to-head in the big game of the weekend in Germany as champions Bayern face fellow Champions League hopefuls Bayer Leverkusen. Roger Schmidt's side overcame a 1-0 first leg deficit against Lazio to dispatch of the Italians with relative ease 3-0 to reach the group stage and looked impressive in midweek.
Wednesday night's exertions may have taken their toll on the visitors a little but they pack plenty of firepower, even without Heung-Min Son following his departure for Spurs, and should cause Bayern problems. These two sides have only conceded once apiece but both goals came very early on in matches and both have scored in the first half of each of their opening encounters. In what should be an entertaining game we're tipping goals at either end before the interval, with huge odds of 5.00.
BARCELONA vs MALAGA - Under 2.5 goals
It takes a brave soul to bet on any Barcelona game seeing under 2.5 goals scored but Malaga had their number in both meetings between the sides last season. The Andalusians secured a shock 1-0 win in this fixture last season and kept the blaugrana at bay at home too to earn a 0-0 draw. Between the two teams just one goal was scored - Luis Suarez's second half winner against Athletic - and none were conceded on the opening weekend.
Luis Enrique's men are rightly strong favourites to pick up all three points but haven't been anywhere near their best since a second half collapse in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla. The hosts may well welcome back Neymar but Malaga will be well organised and and field defensive line-up nonetheless. The hosts should secure a relatively routine win but another narrow margin may be on the cards, with odds of 3.10 on under 2.5 goals.
ROMA vs JUVENTUS - Juventus to win
It was an unexpected start to the season in Italy last weekend, as Juventus fell to their first ever home defeat on the opening day in the Serie A era, while their main title rivals also slipped up. Roma could only manage a point at Verona and in truth have been pretty poor since the turn of the year, with both of these sides attempting to bed in a number of new arrivals.
Already billed as an early title decider given the Old Lady's summer departures, the pressure is on both managers to lay down a marker for the rest of the season. Roma have picked up just one point from their last four league meetings with Juventus, who haven't lost back-to-back league games since way back in 2011. This is certainly a tough game to call given the home advantage in favour of Garcia's men but we're backing Juve to bounce back and you're unlikely to get longer odds than 2.80 on the champions to win all season.
SEVILLA vs ATLETICO MADRID - Atletico to keep a clean sheet
A trip to Sevilla may not be the easiest way to get off to a strong start on the road for Diego Simeone's Atleti side but the hosts are still getting to grips with life without Carlos Bacca. Unai Emery's side could only manage a 0-0 draw against Malaga on the opening day and while Ateltico's 1-0 win over newly-promoted Las Palmas was far from convincing, it's a scoreline their fans have become accustomed to.
Despite Sevilla's impressive recent campaigns they have always struggled against the Rojiblancos, netting just 3 goals in the last 8 league meetings between the sides. Without Bacca - who had a direct hand in 26 league goals last season, they are perhaps a little short on firepower - with no other player having registered more than 10 goals and assists combined last season. With that in mind a third successive clean sheet for Simeone's men against Sunday's hosts looks very tempting indeed at 3.00.
