Team News

Kilmarnock
Aberdeen
  • Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes named three changes to the Killie team that clinched a sole goal success over Hearts at Rugby Park, before a share of the spoils with Motherwell at Fir Park last Friday night under the lights.
  • Kieran O'Hara replaced Robby McCrorie in goal. Robbie Deas missed the trip to Motherwell but the back three had all played against Hearts the weekend prior. David Watson entered the Killie midfield to replace the suspended defender.
  • Fraser Murray, goalscorer Liam Polworth, Brad Lyons and Bruce Anderson made up the rest of the five-man midfield. The only other alteration saw club captain Kyle Vassell come back in for Bobby Wales to partner Marley Watkins in attack.
  • Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin named four changes to the Dons team that was held at home in a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone, before they lost 3-1 to Hibernian at Pittodrie despite taking the lead last weekend.
  • Ross Doohan continued in goal behind Gavin Molloy and Slobodan Rubezic. Nicky Devlin replaced Jack Milne at right-back, as Jack MacKenzie also came back into the Dons defence at James McGarry's expense.
  • Club captain Graeme Shinnie joined Sivert Nilsen in the middle of the park. Topi Keskinen - who opened the scoring - replaced Shayden Morris on the right hand side of midfield. Leighton Clarkson and Jamie McGrath supported lone striker Ester Sokler, who replaced Kevin Nisbet to spearhead the Aberdeen attack.

Prediction

  • The second-worst home team in the division meets the side with the second-best away record in the league, as Kilmarnock host Aberdeen at Rugby Park on Boxing Day.
  • Kilmarnock bounced back to claim a point against Motherwell last weekend, but they are now winless in six league visits to Fir Park since victory in December 2020. But, despite equalising, Killie are one of three Scottish Premiership teams yet to keep a clean sheet on their travels. Having only scored seven goals in as many matches at home, it's not much better in front of their own fans.
  • Aberdeen are enduring the longest ongoing winless run by any team in the Scottish Premiership as, despite taking the lead against Hibs at Pittodrie, it's now six league games without a win for the Dons despite winning 10 of their opening 11. After defeat against Hibernian at home, they've won just once in their last eight league meetings with the Hibees, they're aiming to bounce back.
  • Neither side are in the best of fettle but Kilmarnock won their last league meeting between the two teams in Ayrshire so, given the Dons' recent decline, Killie could pick up a huge three points here.
