Team News

Ross County
Motherwell
  • Ross County boss Don Cowie made three changes after the Staggies recorded a second consecutive 0-0 draw away to St Mirren in Paisley, before a 3-0 defeat to Dundee United at Tannadice before the international break.
  • Ross Laidlaw continued in goal, as Ryan Leak came into the Staggies back three alongside Kacper Lopata and Akil Wright. Elijah Campbell moved out to left wing-back, replacing Josh Reid, with James Brown on the right-hand side.
  • Josh Nisbet and Connor Randall were accompanied in the midfield three by Aidan Denholm, as opposed to Noah Chilvers. Jack Grieves also made way for Ronan Hale to partner Jordan White in the County attack.
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named one enforced change to the Steelmen side that lost 2-1 to Rangers in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden, before they bounced back with victory over St Johnstone by the same scoreline.
  • Aston Oxborough continued in goal behind Dan Casey, Kofi Balmer and Steve Seddon as Liam Gordon was serving a suspension. Marvin Kaleta and Ewan Wilson started at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively.
  • Tom Sparrow, who netted what proved the winner against Saints, accompanied Lennon Miller and Andy Halliday in midfield. Tawanda Maswanhise, who scored the Steelmen's opener, partnered Apostolos Stamatelopoulos in attack.

Prediction

  • Seven points separate ninth-placed Ross County and Motherwell in fifth, as the two teams go head-to-head in the Highlands this weekend.
  • The Staggies avoided becoming the first team to play out three straight goalless draws in the Scottish Premiership since Hibernian between February and March 2022. However, it certainly was not in the way they'd have liked as Ross County's longest ever unbeaten run in the top tier against Dundee United - three matches without defeat - came to an end before the international break.
  • Motherwell clinched back-to-back league victories over St Johnstone for the first time since November 2019, as the Steelmen beat Saints 2-1 for the second time this season, as their McDiarmid Park victory was succeeded by a win at Fir Park. Despite sitting in fifth, their weekend opponents are one of only three teams to have scored fewer league goals than the Well this season (15).
  • These two teams played out a goalless draw at Fir Park on the opening day, but the Well will want to come back down the road with all three points by hook or by crook.
