Team News

St. Mirren
Hearts
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson made two changes after Saints departed Dundee with a point as the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw before the break, before they were held at home by Kilmarnock by the same scoreline last Saturday.
  • An unchanged back three of Richard Taylor, Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser were given the nod in front of Ellery Balcombe again. Jaden Brown started at left wing-back, taking Scott Tanser's spot on the flank with Shaun Rooney on the right.
  • The only other alteration came in the middle of the park, as Roland Idowu took Killian Phillips' place to join club captain Mark O'Hara and Caolan Boyd-Munce. Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya lead the line for the Buddies once again.
  • Steven Naismith made three changes as the Jambos lost by a sole goal to Dundee United at Tynecastle before the international break, before Hearts lost 2-0 to Celtic Park on Saturday in their return to Scottish Premiership action.
  • Stephen Kingsley and Craig Halkett were joined by Kye Rowles in the Jambos' five man defence, as the Australian replaced the ill Frankie Kent. Gerald Taylor took Yutaro Oda's place in the team to start at right wing-back with James Penrice on the left.
  • Beni Baningime was fit again to start, although did hobble off in Glasgow, as he took Blair Spittal's place in the middle of the park to accompany Jorge Grant and Malachi Boateng. Kenneth Vargas partnered Lawrence Shankland in attack.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's top five in the Scottish Premiership meet in Paisley, as St Mirren host Hearts in one of two top tier matches taking place this weekend with others competing in the League Cup.
  • No team have lost more points from winning positions than St Mirren, even in this season's infancy, in the 2024/25 campaign so far (4) after a disappointing draw against ten-man Kilmarnock in their last home fixture. The Buddies will be aiming to bounce back this weekend, despite a poor recent record against Hearts - they've won just two of their last 11 league meetings with the visitors.
  • However, the Jambos aren't in the best of fettle heading into this weekend's game either. One of two teams yet to win a Scottish Premiership match this season, Hearts are also the division's lowest scorers (2) and are on their longest league winless run since April 2023, when they lost five games on the spin. A loss to St Mirren at Tynecastle back then proved the end for Robbie Neilson, before a change was made.
  • It could prove a tense atmosphere in Paisley, with St Mirren in search of a second league victory of the season and they'll hope to find it by sneaking past Hearts here.
