Athletic Club have rekindled their interest in Nacho Monreal and want to bring the Arsenal defender back to Spain, reports AS, via Football Espana.
Monreal only signed a new three-year deal with Arsenal in January last year but the Spaniard’s performances have dipped this season and that area of the pitch should be addressed by Arsene Wenger at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Athletic Club due to his Basque heritage and Ernesto Valverde’s side are hopeful of luring the left-back to San Mames in the summer.
In the last three Premier League campaigns only N’Golo Kante (494), Erik Pieters (479), Cesar Azpilicueta (463) and Claudio Yacob (455) have completed more tackles and interceptions combined than Monreal (453).
