Tottenham target wants north London move

Giovani Lo Celso wants to join Tottenham and is trying to force through a big money move from Real Betis this summer, claims The Daily Mirror.

Lo Celso spent the season on loan at Betis and the Spanish side made his switch from Paris Saint-Germain permanent in April in a deal worth €22m.

The Argentina international was one of the standout performers in Spain outside of the top three teams and Tottenham have earmarked him as a top transfer target this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino has been assured funds will be made available after Tottenham got to the Champions League final without any investment last season.

Tottenham have already had a bid in the region of £62m for Lo Celso rejected as Betis are holding out for his £80m release clause.

However, Lo Celso is determined to secure a high profile move to Tottenham this summer and it has now emerged the 23-year-old is working on forcing through a transfer.

Tottenham will refuse to match Lo Celso’s release clause but the Argentine reportedly now has an agreement with Betis that will allow him to leave the club if a bid in the region of £70m is submitted.

Pochettino has made overhauling Tottenham’s midfield options his top priority this summer. The north London outfit sold Mousa Dembele at the start of the year and the futures of Victor Wanyama and Christian Eriksen are uncertain.

Lo Celso is predominately a central midfielder but played further forward at time last season and often as a central striker for Betis.

Of players that made at least five Europa League appearances last season, Lo Celso was the highest WhoScored rated player in the competition (7.80).
