Team News

Motherwell
Celtic
  • Stuart Kettlewell named six changes to the Steelmen side that lost to St Johnstone 1-0 in the Scottish Cup in Perth, before a 2-1 defeat to Saints at McDiarmid Park proved his final match as Motherwell manager.
  • Ellery Balcombe made his debut between the sticks, replacing Archie Mair. Shane Blaney was the only centre-back to start both games as Dan Casey and Kofi Balmer were replaced by the fit-again Liam Gordon and Stephen O'Donnell.
  • Ewan Wilson lost his place on the left-hand side of midfield, as Marvin Kaleta continued on the right. Andy Halliday was joined by Harry Paton in midfield, as opposed to Kai Andrews. Tom Sparrow came in to join Tawanda Maswanhise in support of Tony Watt up front, with Jack Vale making way.
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named three changes to the Celts side that clinched a Champions League playoff place with a sole goal success against Young Boys, before a crazy 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park in their midweek match.
  • Kasper Schmeichel carried on in goal. Cameron Carter-Vickers was sidelined through injury, so Liam Scales and Auston Trusty started at the heart of the Hoops defence. Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnston were chosen at left-back and right-back respectively.
  • Reo Hatate, Arne Engels and club captain Callum McGregor were chosen as the midfield trio. Daizen Maeda was suspended, so replaced by Hyun-Jun Yang on the left and Nicolas Kuhn on the right. With Kyogo Furuhashi fleeing to France, Adam Idah marked his selection with a brace in Birmingham.

Prediction

  • Fifth hosts first, heading into the weekend's Scottish Premiership games, as Motherwell meet Celtic at Fir Park in one of two matches taking place on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Well are on the lookout for a new gaffer after Stuart Kettlewell's shock resignation following two years as Motherwell manager. He leaves the Steelmen sat in fifth place in the Scottish Premiership table - having also taken the club to a semi-final this season - before elimination in the Scottish Cup the weekend before last, and defeat in the league to St Johnstone last weekend.
  • Celtic will be disappointed at a domestic postponement last weekend, as they were set to host Dundee at Parkhead prior to Storm Éowyn causing Celtic Park some detrimental damage. The Hoops have advanced into the Champions League playoff, where they'll take on German giants Bayern Munich, with attention turning back to domestic proceedings after defeat to Aston Villa.
  • Celtic's European exploits shouldn't cause them too much distraction against a Motherwell team that they've beaten twice this season, without conceding, and who have just lost their manager.
