Team News

Rangers
St. Johnstone
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named two changes to the Gers starting eleven after a a six-goal thriller at Easter Road as they drew 3-3 with Hibernian, before another disappointing draw against Dundee in a 1-1 tie on Thursday night.
  • Liam Kelly continued behind Jefte, Robin Pröpper, Gers debutant Clinton Nsiala and Ridvan Yilmaz as the injured Dujon Sterling missed the trip to Dundee. Connor Barron replaced the suspended Nico Raskin to join Mohamed Diomande in midfield.
  • Ianis Hagi, Nedim Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny supported the hat-trick hero against Hibs, Hamza Igamane in attack. The likes of Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, Oscar Cortes and Danilo came off the bench in midweek but to no avail.
  • St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari named two changes to the Saints side that held Hibs to a 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park to kick off 2025, before they tasted Tayside derby defeat to Dundee as they lost 3-1 to the Dee in Perth last weekend.
  • Josh Rae continued in goal behind a centre-back pairing of Jack Sanders and Bozo Mikulic. Andre Raymond started at left-back with Drey Wright continuing at right-back. Sven Sprangler sat in front of the back four, joined by two new midfielders.
  • Jason Holt was sent off against Hibernian, so Matt Smith replaced him in the middle of the park. Graham Carey also started at Fran Franczak's expense. Nicky Clark supported a front pairing of Adama Sidibeh and Benji Kimpioka.

Prediction

  • Both Rangers and St Johnstone were left disappointed by Dundee in their last Scottish Premiership matches, as the two teams go head-to-head at Ibrox this weekend.
  • The Gers' dreadful away form continued as, despite being pegged back by an early opening goal, their draw in Dundee means they've taken 13 Scottish Premiership points on the road from an available 33. But it's clear that Rangers are strong in front of their own fans as they've taken 28 points from a potential 30 in Glasgow, Dundee United being the only team they've failed to beat.
  • St Johnstone - who haven't scored in their last three meetings with Rangers in all competitions - are one of two Scottish Premiership teams to have picked up eight points from 11 away games in the league so far this season. Saints are cut adrift at the foot of the league table as they trail Hearts, in the relegation playoff place at present, by eight points given the Jambos' recent resurgence.
  • Despite Rangers' ropey recent form, their record against St Johnstone is strong so the Gers should get back to winning ways this weekend against this sorry Saints side.
