Team News

Aberdeen
Hearts
  • Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin named four changes to the Dons team that was beaten 2-1 by Ross County at Pittodrie in their first game of 2025, before they lost 2-0 to Motherwell at Fir Park as their winless run extended to 10 matches.
  • Ross Doohan continued in goal, with Dimitar Mitov absent. Angus MacDonald was joined by Slobodan Rubezic, who was sent off, at Gavin Molly's expense in the Dons' defence. Jack MacKenzie and Nicky Devlin remained as the full-backs.
  • Sivert Nilsen and Ante Palaversa returned to join club captain Graeme Shinnie in midfield. Duk joined Topi Keskinen in support of Kevin Nisbet, rewarded with a start after scoring against Ross County, in the Aberdeen attack.
  • Hearts boss Neil Critchley named an unchanged eleven after the Jambos' sole goal success against Motherwell at Tynecastle, before they went to Tannadice and beat Dundee United by the same 1-0 scoreline.
  • Craig Gordon remained behind a back four of Adam Forrester, Craig Halkett, Kye Rowles and weekend matchwinner James Penrice. Jorge Grant and Cammy Devlin continued as the midfield duo chosen to sit in front of the Hearts defence.
  • Musa Drammeh, Liam Boyce and Blair Spittal supported teenage talent James Wilson in attack once again. The Jambos could hand a debut to January arrival Elton Kabangu, the striker signing from Union Saint-Gilloise in his native Belgium.

Prediction

  • An out-of-form Aberdeen team take on a Hearts side that have found a recent resurgence, as the two go toe-to-toe at Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon.
  • Not since October 2021 had Aberdeen lost five consecutive Scottish Premiership matches in a row, but that became a reality as the Dons were defeated 2-0 by Motherwell at Fir Park to extend their winless run to 10 league games. 31 points from their opening 11 games was incredible, but just three from the latest 10 is a crazy contrast from a superb start that they'll hope to rectify.
  • Heart of Midlothian denied Dundee United the chance to record consecutive Scottish Premiership victories against the Jambos for the first time since 2014, after just a second away league victory of the season as they won by a sole goal at Tannadice. It's the first time since April that they have won back-to-back league games, and a third in a row could see Hearts ascend up a tight table.
  • All roads lead to an away victory given the Jambos' recent resurgence and Aberdeen's dreadful form, but that hasn't happened since 2016 so the Dons may draw with Hearts here after the two shared the spoils at Tynecastle in December.
