Team News

St. Mirren
St. Johnstone
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson named two changes to the Saints team that advanced in the Scottish Cup with a 3-1 victory against Queen of the South at Palmerston Park, before they beat Aberdeen 3-0 at Pittodrie last Saturday.
  • Zach Hemming continued in goal behind Alex Gogic, Richard Taylor who took Alex Iacovitti's place and Marcus Fraser in the Buddies' back three. Scott Tanser remained at left wing-back, with academy graduate Callum Penman staying on the right.
  • Caolan Boyd-Munce replaced Oisin Smyth to accompany club captain Mark O'Hara and Killian Phillips in midfield. Toyosi Olusanya and Mikael Mandron spearheaded the Saints' attack once again, both scoring last time out.
  • St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari named one change to the Saints side that knocked Motherwell out of the Scottish Cup with a sole goal victory in Perth, before they beat the Steelmen 2-1 on a second successive Saturday afternoon.
  • Andy Fisher continued in goal for the league victory behind a back three of Drey Wright, Sven Sprangler and matchwinner Bozo Mikulic. Sam Curtis kept his place at right wing-back, with Barry Douglas on the left-hand side.
  • Max Kucheriavyi was Jack Sanders' replacement in midfield, as he joined Victor Griffith and Jason Holt. Graham Carey supported Makenzie Kirk as Saints' sole striker.

Prediction

  • Both Saints sides booked their spots in the Scottish Cup round of 16, before winning their last Scottish Premiership matches last weekend.
  • St Mirren have now won four of their last five Scottish Premiership meetings against Aberdeen, after a wonderful 3-0 win at Pittodrie. Since the 2022/23 season, the Paisley Saints haven't beaten any opponent more in the league since the Dons. Seven points off third place, another top-six spot could easily beckon for the Buddies just like last season.
  • St Johnstone avoided a third straight Scottish Premiership defeat against Motherwell for the first time since April 2012, after losing the previous two league meetings against the Steelmen this season. However, after knocking the Well out of the Scottish Cup before they made it two wins in as many weekends against Motherwell, they are still cut adrift at the bottom of the league table.
  • St Mirren have beaten St Johnstone both home and away in the Scottish Premiership this season, so will feel confident at making it three from three against their fellow Saints.
