Team News

Dundee United
Motherwell
  • Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin named four changes to the Terrors team that lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, before a 3-0 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead in their last Scottish Premiership match.
  • Jack Walton continued in goal behind a back four of Luca Stephenson, Declan Gallagher, Emmanuel Adegboyega and the incoming Ross Graham. Kevin Holt and Will Ferry missed out through injury, while Ryan Strain dropped onto the bench.
  • Ross Docherty also joined Allan Campbell and Vicko Sevelj in the middle of the park. Kai Fotheringham and Glenn Middleton came in to start on the flanks, supporting the league's top scorer Sam Dalby in attack as Ruari Paton was sat amongst the substitutes.
  • Motherwell interim manager Stevie Frail named four changes to the Steelmen side that lost 3-1 to Celtic at Fir Park, before a 3-0 defeat to Ross County at the same venue last Saturday.
  • Ellery Balcombe continued in goal behind the incoming Kofi Balmer, Liam Gordon and Stephen O'Donnell as Shane Blaney dropped out. Dominic Thompson started on the left-hand side of midfield as Tom Sparrow moved out to the right-hand side at Marvin Kaleta's expense.
  • Andy Halliday was joined by Callum Slattery and Lennon Miller in the middle of the park, as Sam Nicholson dropped onto the bench. Tawanda Maswanhise made way for Tony Watt to accompany Luke Armstrong in attack.

Prediction

  • Six points separate Dundee United in fourth spot and Motherwell in eighth place, prior to the two teams going toe-to-toe at Tannadice this weekend.
  • Defeat to Celtic was nothing new for Dundee United, as the Terrors have gone ten years without victory over the Hoops since a win at Tannadice in December 2014. United's season won't be defined by matches against the league leaders but, after four consecutive defeats in all competitions, they'll hope to get back to winning ways despite not beating Motherwell so far this season.
  • The Well lost at Fir Park to Ross County for the first time since a sole goal defeat in March 2022, unbeaten in five since before their weekend defeat to the Staggies. Motherwell have lost their last four Scottish Premiership matches, suffering four league defeats on the spin for the first time since October 2023, but the Steelmen have won three matches against Dundee United this season.
  • Neither team enter this match in fine form but, despite Motherwell's recent record against Dundee United, the Well may find it tricky to get to grips right away under their new manager.
