Team News

Rangers
St. Mirren
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named five changes after the Gers' humiliating 1-0 defeat which saw them knocked out of the Scottish Cup against Championship opposition Queen's Park, before they bounced back with a 3-1 win over Hearts.
  • Jack Butland took Liam Kelly's place between the sticks. Clinton Nsiala and John Souttar took Robin Propper and Rafael Fernandes' places in the back four with James Tavernier at right-back and Jefte at left-back.
  • Bailey Rice made way for Nico Raskin to partner Mohamed Diomande in front of the Gers defence. Tom Lawrence replaced Nedim Bajrami, to accompany Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi in support of lone striker Hamza Igamane.
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson named an unchanged Saints team despite being knocked out of the Scottish Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Hearts in Paisley, before they played out a goalless draw with Hibernian on Sunday afternoon.
  • Zach Hemming continued in goal behind Alex Gogic, Richard Taylor and Marcus Fraser in the Buddies' back three on Monday night. Caolan Boyd-Munce accompanied club captain Mark O'Hara and Killian Phillips in midfield.
  • Changes had came on the flanks as Declan John took Scott Tanser's place at left wing-back and Ryan Alebiosu started at Elvis Bwomono's expense on the right. Toyosi Olusanya and Mikael Mandron spearheaded the Saints' attack.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's Scottish Premiership top six, who also occupy top half spots before this weekend's games take place, meet at Ibrox as Rangers host St Mirren.
  • Rangers bounced back with a result, but not necessarily a performance to accompany the victory, against Hearts at Tynecastle following one of the most embarrassing defeats in their history. The Gers appear to have Hearts' number as they continued their unbeaten run against the Jambos. Hoping that Hibs can do them a favour against Celtic, it's about trying to close the gap at the top.
  • St Mirren haven't lost four Scottish Premiership home matches in a row since February to April 2022, and they avoided doing so despite a disappointing goalless draw against Hibernian last time out. The Buddies beat Rangers on Boxing Day and gave them a scare in their earlier league meeting in Govan back in October so, despite their inconsistencies, can go toe-to-toe with the Gers.
  • Both league meetings this season have seen the home team win 2-1 so, with Saints misfiring recently, Rangers should continue the theme of home victories and beat the Buddies at Ibrox.
