Prediction

  • Galatasaray were 2-1 winners against Rizespor last time out. As has often been the case in recent weeks, their performance was well under par and they needed a late goal to grab three points, but they won in the end simply because the quality gap between the two teams is too big. However, Gala's defensive weaknesses was once again exposed by Alkmaar in the midweek Europa League draw, which saw the Lions' fas reiterate their call for Buruk to resign.
  • As Gala are six points ahead of Fenerbahce in the league, they do not necessarily need a win here. However, if Buruk chooses to approach this very conservatively and sit too deep, waiting for Fenerbahce to attack, his already strained relationship with the fans might go even sourer.
  • Fenerbahce beat Kasimpasa 3-1 last time out. This was a typical Mourinho performance where the team did not have to over-exert themselves largely thanks to their clinical finishing abilities. Unlike Gala, Fenerbahce also managed to go through in the Europa League, eliminating Anderlecht.
  • Although Mourinho knows his team has to win this, he will still not go all-out attack. Expect a controlled start from the Portuguese, who will be particularly relying on Talisca to win the derby for him, as he has done quite a few times at Besiktas before.
  • This will be an extremely tense game and Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, brought here especially for the occasion, might end up brandishing a few more cards than usual.
  • Although both teams have been getting results in the Super Lig lately, Fenerbahce's performances have been slightly better. They might be able to get a historic away derby win here. In any case, the guests are extremely likely to get at least a draw.
