Team News

Aston Villa
Tottenham
  • New arrival Axel Disasi will have to wait a little longer to make his debut for Aston Villa as the Frenchman is cup-tied, meaning compatriot Boubacar Kamara should start at centre-back alongside Ezri Konsa.
  • Pau Torres, Ross Barkley, Tyrone Mings, Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins are all injured, so Donyell Malen and Marco Asensio may make their full debuts here. Marcus Rashford is also an option for Unai Emery.
  • Ian Maatsen and Lamine Bogarde are expected to start at left and right-back, respectively.
  • Richarlison is once again injured for Tottenham having come off in the first half of Thursday's defeat to Liverpool with a suspected calf strain.
  • The Brazilian is one of 10 confirmed absentees for Tottenham, though the likes of James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Brennan Johnson are close to a return.
  • Micky van de Ven missed the EFL Cup mauling at Anfield and may not recover in time here, which means Kevin Danso should keep his place alongside Ben Davies.
  • Mathys Tel is in line for his full debut, while Mikey Moore and Lucas Bergvall may both start. Dane Scarlett is cup-tied.

Prediction

  • Aston Villa come into Sunday's game against Tottenham the fresher of the two teams and will look to bounce back from their disappointing 2-0 loss at rivals Wolves last week. Villa are unbeaten in 10 at Villa Park, and have won six of their last eight at home.
  • Tottenham were torn to shreds at Liverpool on Thursday night to end their EFL Cup dream. Defeat at Anfield was just Spurs' second in cup competitions, and they'll be eager to return to winning ways and book a place in the next round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
  • Spurs have a very good record at Villa Park, winning nine of their last 10 trips to the Midlands, including a 4-1 win in the league fixture here last season. With extra time to prepare and a more manageable injury list, Villa may sneak into the next round of the competition to pile further pressure upon Ange Postecoglou.

  • Playing play every 3-4 days with several first team players out injured or struggling with fitness (e.g. van de Ven, Romero, Vicario, Udogie, Maddison, Richarlison, Bentancur, Johnson) for 3 months such that the available players become exhausted or themselves injured (e.g. Porro, Deki, Son, Solanke, Davies, Dragusin) is always going to make things difficult. Apparently it's hard enough dealing with 8 changes for a one off cup match against the team bottom of the championship.

  • Got my money back from the Liverpool shocker -)

  • its time ange

  • Hard to see Tottenham getting a result here despite their decent record at Villa park. For the past eight days Tottenham's league form has been better than their cup form. Aston Villa 3-1 Tottenham
