Team News

Ajax
Union St.Gilloise
  • Wout Weghorst, Branco van den Boomen and Youri Regeer miss out for Ajax, while Jordan Henderson, Owen Wijndal and Amourricho van Axel Dongen will be assessed.
  • 16-year-old midfielder Jorthy Mokio should keep his place in the XI after starring in last week's first leg.
  • Josip Sutalo replaced Daniele Rugani for the second half in Belgium last week and may start here.
  • The visitors are without Alessio Castro-Montes and Kamiel Van de Perre through injury.

Prediction

  • Ajax made it five wins in a row and claimed top spot in the Eredivisie over the weekend with a 4-0 home win over Heracles.
  • Francesco Farioli's side have now scored eight goals without reply in their last three matches across all competitions.
  • After defeat in last week's first leg Union St.Gilloise were beaten at home by KV Mechelen over the weekend, and have fallen out of the Jupiler League's top three.
  • Given the form of both sides heading into this return leg, it would come as a surprise if the hosts did not advance with relative ease here.

  • Ajax suck big time. They will be found out in the next round.

  • Looks like sofascore is putting Union SG at 4.29xG, and that tracks with what I thought. I hope a lot of neutrals decided to tune in, because it was easily one of the best matches I’ve seen this season

  • Diabolically bad refereeing from Kavanaugh as is convention with all English refs, but in spite of that, an incredible performance from both teams, especially Ajax to get through playing 100 minutes a man down. Union were also incredible at many points and I’m sure when the xG created is analyzed, it’ll probably be at 4 or more
