Team News

Barcelona
Benfica
  • Pau Cubarsi was sent off early in the first leg win over Benfica and misses out, with Ronald Araujo expected to come into the side at centre-back.
  • Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal all continue to miss out for the Blaugrana.
  • Hansi Flick may continue with Frenkie de Jong and Dani Olmo in midfield this week, meaning Marc Casado and Gavi start from the bench.
  • Alvaro Carreras is suspended after he received his fifth yellow card of the Champions League this season in the first leg.
  • Angel Di Maria remains a doubt for Benfica, but Tiago Gouveia, Alexander Bag and Manu Silva miss out.
  • Florentino was fit enough for the bench at the weekend and he should come into the XI.
  • Bruno Lage may opt for a three-man defence in the absence of Carreras, with Samuel Dahl starting at left wing-back.

Prediction

  • Barcelona take a one goal advantage into their second leg meeting with Benfica owing to Wojciech Szczesny's heroics in Lisbon. This'll be an emotionally charged encounter following the tragic passing of first team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia shortly before Saturday's game against Osasuna, which was subsequently postponed.
  • Benfica responded to last week's first leg defeat with a resounding 3-0 win over Nacional. The Portuguese side have recovered key players for this second leg tie, though the absence of Alvaro Carreras is a huge blow. Benfica have won four of five away Champions League games this season, though have failed to win their last three trips to Barcelona.
  • Barcelona will want to honour Garcia here, and should do so by booking their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

  • Man of the match: Zoltan

  • I don't even see ONE player in the two teams at the level of Mahrez or Afif - these guys fight, they do not play the game!

  • 78' and shots to goal ratio for the two teams is 4-1 Barca and 4-0 Benfica. And all that with the agreement of the coaches! Disgusting! These are no coaches!

  • Easy so far for Barca.

  • @Marbella Also, Benfica is missing Di Maria and Carreras. Even Florentino just recouvered from an injury and is not 100% fit.

  • @Marbella They had 5 days rest while Benfica only 2 days. What did you expect??? An athlete cannot recover physically in just 2 days.... Given the unfair playing field, Barca should have scored already 6 or 7 goals and the game is still not over (30 minutes rest). Barca's game is riddled with numerous mistakes in the final third - something I am not used to seeing for this club. But I guess nowadays that's the trend. It's ridiculous the low level of game they are capable to deliver at home.

  • @Zoltan It's not because of unfair scheduling, but because their match against Osasuna was postponed because their physio died.

  • @vvilde Plenty of such scenarios arise without deaths as well. Like the other day with Galatasaray! So, it is scheduling. Teams many times would like to reschedule the national games, but the corrupt UEFA does not let them! They love to create unfair playing grounds!

  • @Zoltan yes, I'm just saying this applies to this match specifically

  • @vvilde doesn't apply*

  • Barcelona over 2.5 goals

  • Lew -125 / Raphina +125 TSA

  • The other thing: Barcelona 5 rest days in between successive games, while Benfica only 2 rest days. It's okay that Barcelona will win, but a Barca win does not pay anything and give the idiotic, tactical, possession based nature of the game nowadays, it is unlikely that it will be a high scoring game. Benfica will surely miss to hit the target, while Barcelona is a huge question mark as we don't know how much they will care to play.....

  • I hate these two leg competitions! With the crazy schedules they should just have one game in a neutral location. Thus, we could see ACTUAL football games designed to score goals, rather than this tactical crap whereby every team waits for the other to make a mistake. This way, we only get boring games with walk around pace and low scoring. But of course, that's exactly the goal: low scoring games to increase the wealth of the club owners, who also cross own all the betting companies: a true Maffia system is in place that would make even the Maffia jealous!

  • @Zoltan The 2 leg competitions are due to financial greed by the clubs involved and by UEFA.

  • @Marbella Not to mention the odds. As a regular bettor, you should have noticed how unfair the odds are: for the most part, any descent bets are reserved for the pairings of equally shitty teams and the top teams are regularly overvalued by giving extremely low odds for their win, when in fact those top teams perform just as irregularly as most other teams because of the artificial scheduling irregularities (too frequent and/or unequal ground in terms of rest days between successive games). So, everything is driven by profiting the gambling companies. And just who do you think the owners of those betting companies are??? Do you think they are average Joes like you and I? Of course not! That's exactly why the entrance of those American and Arabic owners coincided with the sudden change in scheduling games to unheard frequencies (frequencies that previously would have been deemed unhealthy and potentially leading to even career ending injuries - like for example with DeBruyne).

  • @Marbella That's what you are told! The financial greed is on a much higher level than you suspect! The financial greed of the clubs could NOT play a part because the much more frequent game time hurts both the players (injury wise) and most clubs (through injuries and the unpredictability of the results). While the clubs might get more money for the more frequent but shittier games (unsustainable model at the very least), the club owners benefit through a phenomenon called cross owning stocks in various businesses, including one of the most profitable one: GAMBLING! But of course, when you believe only what the mainstream media regurgitates for you, there is not much I can do. Just why do you think all the arabic and US owners have shown up in European soccer? Do you think the little TV money would have attracted them alone? No way! The big money, the big loot comes from rigging the game and creating artificial unpredictability through scheduling (5 days rest vs 2 days rest today).

  • @Zoltan you know it's 5 days for Barcelona only because the game against osasuna was postponed, right?

  • Barcelona 54,6%, benfica 25,7%, draw 19,6%. Barcelona win or benfica +1,5 better ?

  • Barca 3-0

  • บาซ่า 3-1 ต่อ 1.5 / 2 ลูกหวานเจี๊ยบ

  • Home Win

  • barca ht/ft

  • over 1.5 first half goals
